More About Prosperpine Cottages

Here is more information about who we are. Some interesting fun facts and how we operate differently.

Prosper Pine Cottages has been a family owned resort for over 35 years. Ken and Isabel Whittaker bought the camp in 1982 with the idea to shut the camp down and retire. That obviously didn’t happen, and we are still having guests stay with us to this day.

We don’t want you to just stay with us; we want you to get to know us. We enjoy having a personal relationship with all our guests and encourage them to get to know us. Now that Isabel has retired from the business her grandson Steve has taken over with his father Terry and his wife Peggy handling the day to day business. Make sure to stop into the office if you ever need anything or just to say hello.

We are located just off highway 11 only 3 hours north of Toronto making us a quick and easy getaway to cottage country.

Prosper Pine Cottages is located on the south edge of Callander, Ontario which offers any needs you may have. Grocery, beer/liquor store, convenience store, drug store, gas station and restaurants are all available. The city of North Bay is short drive of 10 minutes away where you can find everything large city has to offer as well as shopping centers, golf courses, night entertainment and more.

Callander Bay and Lake Nipissing have some beautiful scenery with deer, moose, osprey and eagles seen from time to time. Most of the shores are well treed making for some fantastic photos.

The lake holds a wide variety of fish. Walleye, perch, bass, pike, and musky are the main sport fish on the lake for the avid fisherman and many pan fish for the whole family to enjoy.

Our camp record for Musky is 49 lbs caught by Fred Shores in 2003. We are still waiting for that to be broken and hope it happens soon. Fall is a great time to find big trophy fish and enjoy the lake as it changes colour. Lake Nipissing being a popular lake for fishing does have limits and size restrictions for Walleye. We have seen great improvements in the conservation of our lake and catching 20 to 30 Walleye is easily done while still being able to bring a couple in for a fresh fish meal.

Ice fishing is also very popular on the lake and the season runs from January 1st until March 15th. We have some great packages available. Our guests have the luxury of staying in one of our warm fully serviced cottages while being transported each day to their fish hut for a great day on the lake. No sleeping on the ice at Prosper Pine Cottages. We like our guest to have allthe comforts they need.

We want you to have a great time. Our guests have the benefit of enjoying free fire wood as available, free use of all leisure beach and lawn equipment and open access to beach and dock area. Please make yourself at home.

We do have a small general store on site for anything you may forget to bring as well as smaller items like ice and soda that you have run out of.

We are a pet friendly resort but do insist that your furry family members are on a leash for the comfort of the other guests staying with us, they are cleaned up after and that they remain off the furniture and the beds.

Our guests are responsible for the property. All damages will be billed to the guest. We want you to stay and have a great vacation. We want all our guests to return home safely and ask that children are supervised accordingly. Safety is our main concern; children should not be on or around the beach or dock areas without a parent.

We don’t believe in having a quiet time set but do ask that you keep aware and respect the guests staying in the other cabins. Enjoy yourself, get to know your neighbors but remember there are others doing the same.
